Objectives
What is new about Used Book Central
is our attempt to keep things the same. Our belief is that once
consumers learn how to use a search process, they don’t want to
change. And once dealers set up their system they should not be
forced to change.
Used Book Central was formed to restore
the original discipline of online used book searches, namely simple,
fast, and reliable searches for the consumer and affordable, easy
to manage process for the dealers. We are building the core system
to be free of frills, but to make options to dealers that will
allow the system to be enhanced as much as possible.
Our immediate objectives are to
attract as many dealers to our system as possible so that we can
offer a valuable selection to the marketplace, to make the searching
easy and fast, and the ordering process as simple and secure as
possible.
Above all else, our long term goal
is to provide services that will help our dealers be successful
and grow to be the largest dealer network. We know to accomplish
that, we must attract heavy order flow for our dealers, and keep
the cost of the service free of commissions and extra work.

Overview
Used Book Central was conceived
in April, 2001 by used book dealer Robert Moore of Oregonbooks
to create a used book online market place that was once again
easy to use for both buyers and dealers, to appeal to a larger
segment of the consumer market. What will strike you when trying
out Used Book Central is that we have come full circle. This service
is true to the original values of the industry, bringing buyer
and dealer together without getting in the way.
Used Book Central is also dedicated
to maximizing value and minimizing expenses. The value of this
service in one word is orders. Orders result by making it easy
for buyers to buy. To Used Book Central, this means a fast, simple,
easy to use search engine, and straight forward order pass-through
to the dealers.
Minimizing expenses is even easier.
It wasn't that long ago that the entire industry had a low expense
structure. We think it is absurd that dealers are now being asked
to pay service providers bigger margins that they net from a sale.
With Used Book Central dealers keep the commission you don't pay
us commissions. Somehow costs rose as the services started emphasizing
e-commerce over plain old commerce. Used Book Central pledges
not to fall into that trap. Our system is fast because it is simple,
affordable because it is simple, and easy to use because it is
simple.
Used Book Central also pledges to
focus on continually expanding the market by attracting new buyers
to the platform over the years. We think the success of our service
over the years should be measure in terms of orders.

Open Platform
Policy
All subscriptions (except for special
promotions) are month to month. Any dealer may discontinue this
service at the end of the service month.
Used Book Central expects its dealers
to operate their businesses and submit listing that are consistant
with listing of other dealers. Listing to Used Book Central must
not be libelous, obscene, infringe on third part copyright, be
fraudulently portrayed or obtained, or whose listing would violate
any laws. Dealers are expected to provide timely delivery of delivery
of products. Used Book Central.reserves the right to withhold
access to any dealer that fails to adhere to these and other guidelines
that may reflect negatively on the dealer customer service quality
of the overall network.

Used
Book Central Search
This service relies on the internet
to combine lists of book offering by many dealers into a single
database so the consumer can find and select the book for purchase.
Once orders are placed, they are sent to the specific dealer chosen
by the buyer.

Pricing
Used Book Central bases all fees
on the number of listed titles payable at the beginning of each
month in US dollars. Fees may be paid by credit card or electronic
funds transfer.

up to 25,000 - $17.50
25,001-50,000 - $25
50,001-100,000 - $37.50
over 100,000 call us.

Book Searches No commissions
Used Book Central does not charge
buyers for searches, or to place want lists. Nor do we charge
commission on orders forwarded to dealers. Fast and Easy to use
Please search our database and judge for yourself. The four part
book record is designed to allow as much flexibility as possible.
Part One is the Title, Part 2 the Author, Part 3 everything else
you wish to include about your listing, and Part 4 the price.
The buyer can search on any combination of fields.
